STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Big Dig continues into the evening.
Staten Island residents forced to brave mountains of c to change to solve this morning now present a similar challenge as they give to their homes for the evening.
As of now, train service on Staten Island remains suspended in both directions. Officials hoped to live more about possible return of service later this evening.
Ferry service has been reduced and snow plows and buses have been struggling to navigate slippery roads and abandoned vehicles. During the morning rush, dozens of city buses lined Hylan Boulevard after a tractor trailer got stuck in the snowfall in Grasmere and blocked the borough's busiest road, leaving their riders stranded. A winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in force until midnight, with strong winds causing areas of blowing and floating of snow, and black ice making many roads dangerous.
While most of the borough's main roads have been plowed, many secondary and tertiary ones have not. Mayor Bloomberg said today that labor may bring up to 24 hours.
Bloomberg was expected to have an appearance on Staten Island this evening.
All of the area's bridges are open to periodic closure for plowing. There are 25 mph speed restrictions on the Outerbridge Crossing and Goethals and Bayonne bridges, and a 20 mph restriction on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
