After their dramatic come from behind win on Saturday, the boys boarded the bus for their first road adventure of the season on Sunday afternoon.Hello Houston! Seeing as how the Aeros had demolished us 6-1 in the opening game, and interpreted a 2-1 decision in a close OT game just 2 nights before, I wasn't really sure what to bear from this game. I knew what I was hoping.
hat the boys would get home with regular numbers in the win/loss columns for the season. I simply didn't need to trust too hard, ya know? The game started off quickly, in a rather surprising fashion. At 3:20 of the 1st, the Barons took the lead.off a goal from one Alexandre Giroux. I was so glad for him to eventually get one. That's how the point would end, as the Barons took that 1-0 lead into the cabinet room. The momentum carried into the 2nd for the Barons, when at 3:55 on a force play, wait what???? Alex Giroux AGAIN?!?!?! Oh yeah, baby. 2-0, Giroux over the Aeros. At 14:16 of the 2nd, the Barons' Colin McDonald decided he cherished in on the action, and pushed OKC to a surprising 3-0 lead. The officials seemed to predict everything they possibly could in the 2nd, even to the level of giving Houston 5 consecutive power plays, including a 5 on 3. Goalie Bryan Pitton, making his maiden part of the flavor was having none of it however. He held the fort well, not allowing an Aeros goal until well into the 2nd period, when at 16:07 Petr Kalus was capable to get one by. OKC takes a 3-1 lead into the second intermission, the start sentence all season we've had leads after apiece of the 1st 2 periods. Houston did their level best to ride a comeback.at the 1:55 mark of the 3rd, Robbie Earl made it a little tighter of a contest, pushing the Aeros to within one at 3-2. Things just felt *different* in this game, though. While the Barons success was pretty surprising, I felt like they had a good hold on what way the work was going. I guess I was right. From that place on, the 3rd period solely became the OKC Barons show. No fewer than FIVE consecutive goals, from Jeff Petry (5:11, PP), Liam Reddox (8:05 SH), Linus Omark (15:40), Teemu Hartikainen (16:33, PP), and Chris VandeVelde (18:11), put a resounding exclamation point on the boys' first road game. Following the end by Omark, Houston decided to get somewhat chippy and begin doing what they could to expand the penalty minute total, but at that point, I'm not certainly that anyone cared. Snowman on the room for the Barons, winners by a score of 8-2. Surpassing in one game the total goals they had scored in their 4 previous games. Shawn Belle ended up with 4 assists in this game, and I'm not entirely sure, but I believe we might be watching the following Player of the Week in Brad Moran, as he added 2 assists to his 3 goal effort from the dark before. Um, wow. I'm hoping it wasn't an abomination; that this team with the plot against Lake Erie and the game against Houston, is finally start to get together. I know things seem right and healthy good, and I'm seeing - minus the 2 SHG allowed against Lake Erie in the 1st period on Saturday - a much, MUCH improved team from what they were before. Tomorrow night, Lake Erie again. I'm utterly intrigued to see how this game goes off, with the Barons heading into their 5th game in 4 nights, and the Monsters not doing much better, travel-wise. Can just wait.see ya there! GO BARONS!
