Gotta get this through before the snow flies! - MyTractorForum .

I recently got a 446 and its main usage will be as a snow remover. It came with a UB-54 plow in fairly good shape (except it's missing the "lift bracket adapter plate" and it looks like I must have that) and a snocaster that has seen better days. It's all rust issues, mechanically it's fine. I do not love the model number on the snocaster, a PO has spraypainted over the tag and I've not yet been capable to safely off the key to take it.

I may end up just trying to catch it from the parts diagrams. It does NOT suffer the adjustable auger so that's a just start point - and it looks like the gimlet is set pretty pretty close so I don't give to care about it. Some prior owner rattle canned this with what looks like no prep work and some cheap paint that is now peeling and is the colour of dirty Pepto-Bismol. It's in pretty rough work to wait at but functions perfectly. The gimlet is in decent shape, took me about 10 mins with the big Chanellocks to get it all straight - looks like it hit something once - a little wirebrushing & painting and that will be beneficial to go. Bearings are good. But formerly the gimlet is out the interior is pretty bad (sorry for the blurry pic). I've learned that my compressor can't manage a sandblaster unless I wish to very frequent breaks, but only found out there's a pro less than a mile down the road, I'm taking this (only) to him tomorrow. It seems the bottom of the back, where it meets the bottom while the scraper bar mounts to, is not welded full length, and where it isn't welded water got underneath and chewed the march up pretty bad, I suspect some grinding and filling will be necessary. That's probably the whip of it. I wonder why the factory left that lip? As bad as it looks, it turns smoothly and easily, and the chain looks almost new and it's well greased. The scraper bar was replaced not too long ago, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they're reversible - when it wears down you can pass it and use the former side. Nice thinking, Case! But I'll get to weld new bottoms on the shoes. I took the jump off & apart and cleaned down to bare metal with a twisted wire wheel, no pics yet. Came out looking pretty good. it'll be cleaned & primed along with the early parts once I clean them. I'm not restoring this thing, just getting it rust free, the correct color, and in full working condition. I'll probably talk myself into replacing all the decals if I can get them. I'm putting together a list of parts I live I'll take and I've already contacted Brian Hildreth. Has anyone calculated a "final drive ratio" for the auger? Just curious. BTW, HD sells squeegee heads for driveway sealer for 5.88. There's enough heavy rubber on one of those to describe both paddle edges 2 or 3 times, and probably deep enough that they can be flipped over when they wear. I believe I can only cut out a section ended with the steel stock, drill & mount it. I'm doing that & I'll post pics when it's done. Good thing I did my driveway last month and cleaned the squeegee when I was done.
