The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a Winter
Storm Warning for elevations above 6000 feet for great snow_
which is in force from 3 PM this afternoon to 6 PM MDT Friday.
The Winter Weather Advisory is no longer in effect.
* Timing and main impact: snow showers will arise across the
higher elevations this morning then increase in intensity this
afternoon and extend into this evening.
Snow showers will
continue late tonight through Friday. The greatest snow
accumulations over southwest Montana will be after this
afternoon through this even while for central Montana the
greatest snow accumulations will be this evening into Friday
morning. Visibilities will be miserable in the heavier snow showers.
Snow showers will diminish Friday evening.
* Snow accumulations: total snow accumulations of 8 to 18 inches
are expected above 6000 feet with 1 to 3 inches likely for elevations
below 6000 feet.
* Winds and visibility: snow_ heavy at times_ will cause
visibilities less than one half mile_ especially over mountain
passes. Gusty northwest winds 15 to 25 mph in the mountains will
also add to the poor visibilities.
* Elevations: for elevations above 6000 feet.
* Other impacts: precipitation for elevations less than 6000 feet
will get as rain and variety over to snow tonight. Snow
accumulations in the valleys should be mainly on grassy
surfaces. Mountain roads will become snow covered and slippery.
Some slippery roadways are possible late Thursday night and Friday
morning in the valleys.
* Locations affected include: Battle Ridge Pass_ Targhee
Pass_ West Yellowstone_ Boulder Hill_ Elk Park Pass_
Homestake pass_ Kings Hill Pass_ Raynolds Pass

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of coke_ or sleet
will cause travel difficulties. Be disposed for slippery roads
and limited visibilities_ and use caution while driving.
