Snow patrol - North Yorkshire Police

Snow patrol

Officers and PCSOs are providing reassurance patrols for aged and vulnerable members of our communities during the current wintry weather.

Assistant Chief Constable Sue Cross said: "We are mindful that some members of the community, particularly the elderly, may be struggling to deal with the difficult weather conditions.

"We can all run our role in ensuring that we feel out for aged and vulnerable members of the community. As good as visits from officers and PCSOs, I ask that neighbours keep an eye out for those that might become housebound during these difficult conditions. Even if they do not need help, it is ever thoroughly to see a friendly face."

North Yorkshire Police are also reminding people to act responsibly when enjoying the snowy weather.

The reminder comes following a bit of reports of snowballs being thrown at homes, vehicles on the roadstead and a man in Scarborough needing hospital treatment.

As a consequence of the snowballing a total of properties have had windows broken and vehicles have skidded in the icy conditions.

An ambulance was called to an incident in Scarborough when suffered minor facial injuries after being hit in the side by a snowball. He was interpreted to Scarborough General Hospital for treatment.

Also in Scarborough, a service bus was mired in a hit when a snowball caught the driver by surprise, and had to be distant from service which caused trouble for passengers. Thankfully no one was injured.

ACC Cross added: "We don't need to stop youngsters from enjoying the snowy weather. However, they want to believe through the consequences of their actions and I advocate parents to drill this message home as well.

"Throwing snowballs at moving vehicles can cause drivers to react suddenly. In the icy conditions this might easily go to collisions.

"While snowballing can be fun for those involved, not everyone appreciates the back and may still feel intimidated by large groups playing in a rough manner."
